In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country is one of the various minor releases produced by IDM legends Boards of Canada. It is a four track EP released in November of 2000. Often overlooked, it’s one of my favorites from the group, sporting sounds made characteristically by analogue equipment.

Their most famous full-length record is the critically-acclaimed Music Has the Right to Children. Very hazy and dreamy music that subtly leads you around within the world of nostalgia and blurring childhood memories. Many of the songs Boards of Canada writes are short fragments of speech married with slow, ambient-esque atmospheric pieces, meant to capture specific moments in time (watching Saturday morning cartoons, conversations, walks out, playing in the park, other every-day childhood activities, etc). Here’s a great example (“The Color of the Fire”, third track in this album). A cryptically warm and welcoming record. 10/10.

Here’s track number 12 on the album, titled “Aquarius”.
